Kings
Road Galleries represent an eclectic mix of
contemporary artists with a strong tendency
towards figurative works.
Man on a Horse II by Konstantin Bessmertny is a
typical example of how this artist masters the
art
of fine draughtmanship while still keeping his
ironic and biting humour. The painting depicts
a rather
proud-looking character on a life-size horse. This
is supposed to symbolise the man’s supreme
status in life: to have his portrait painted, and
on such a scale, gives him epic importance and
virtue – but how he has achieved this is
not known. |
